ABOUT

Umami (ümämi; うまみ) is one of the five basic principles of taste, along with sweet, sour, bitter and salty. Some call it savoriness or roundness but WTF does that mean? Trying to define the term is futile– it’s just the gut instinct you have when something tastes as good as… SEX! Consider it a flavor implosion.

Here at Umamimart, we know what’s good. From Tokyo to San Francisco, NYC to Madrid, we report on our food obsessions from all over the map. Be forewarned that we are at times elusive, just like umami. Irreverent, always.

Oh, and we all have accents. Deal with it.
