Happy Donut Day!
Today is National Donut Day! I woke up this morning in high anticipation for this and walked over to my local donut shop, Colonial Donuts. Love me a glazed donut first thing in the morning.
According to Wiki, this day was created by the Salvation Army in 1938, to commemorate the ladies who served donuts to soldiers during WWI. Pretty neat, right? Donut Day always falls on the first Friday of June, every year.
Incidentally, Colonial Donuts also looks like its been around since 1938. The sign makes me feel like I’m in the Alps, wearing lederhosen. Awesome.
Please make sure to go out to your favorite donut shop and get a sugary deep-fried ball of dough today! Do it for the ladies who served donuts during the war.
And here’s a video from J Dilla’s masterpiece album, DONUTS. This song Airworks, is my favorite. RIP, JD.
PS- Yes, I spell donut without the “ugh”. It’s not a misspelling!
