La Place (Plan-les-Ouates)
I liked this restaurant for the atmosphere…very relaxed and casual feeling for somewhat not homey food. The chefs recently changed so the quality is supposed to have gotten better. One Italian and one Portuguese. We took the last bottle of an amazing wine but the funny part is that they actually mark last bottles on the menu as such.

The amuse was a fresh sliver of salmon with a dab of crème fraiche.

“Entrée” means appetizer here which always confuses me…this one had “symphonie” in the name which made it irresistible. Small melange of 4 appetizers, no closeup of the gazpacho.

Raw tuna with caper berries and bell pepper relish.

Sauted foie gras with strawberries and balsamic sauce and flax seed tuile cookie. I actually don’t really like foie gras because it’s too much like savory animal butter (I mean butter is animal butter too but whatevs) but strawberries are a great combination!

Lobster ravioli with red curry sauce. The ravioli itself is quite good and the pasta has a good texture…but the coconut milk is a bit strong for lobster.
“Plat” is actually entree…cannot actually remember what this was called but it was some kind of poultry a bit smaller than a chicken but NOT a cornish hen.

Roasted white meat with a kind of a spring roll of dark meat.

I get a kind of pleasure out of an animal prepared different ways. This was a confit of dark meat on bone with a sweet sauce.

Cauliflower and broccoli mousse. This was the best thing! Warm and super rich.

On the note of animals prepared different ways…my uncle’s dish of veal prepared in 3 ways. I tried a piece and found it a bit creepily soft though.
Ordered and shared 3 desserts…
Standard kind of flourless type choco cake but actually the taste was really good! The Swiss chocolate perhaps?

Types of berries, strawberries and mint salad, vanilla panacotta, strawberry macaron with strawberry ice cream and a really fresh raspberry sorbet.

This was the best dessert. Frozen nougat! I’m not sure what they meant by it but it was like that kind of ice cream that’s actually whipped cream. Absolutely delicious. They do like their tuille cookies though.
